EMO is an independent organisation, which under Belgium law termed "Aisbl" (association internationale sans but lucratif)". It was created in 1995 and is financially supported by its Members' contributions and by subsidies from European national institutions or organisations.

How to become member

The following organisations may apply for membership:

• legal persons that represent authors and/or composers and/or publishers;
• legal persons that represent performing artists;
• legal persons that represent record and/or video producers;
• legal persons whose object is to represent, defend and promote the interests of creative and cultural industries in the music sector.

The Board of Directors alone is empowered to decide whether or not a member belongs to the category in question.

Full members pay an annual membership fee in an amount decided by the Board of Directors, according to following criteria:

• the size of the market they represent,
• the nature of the activities they represent,
• the economic weight of the activities they represent

Associate members pay a fixed annual membership fee in an amount decided once a year by the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors adjusts the amount of membership fees once a year
The General Assembly ratifies the membership fee adjustments proposed by the Board of Directors.
The amount of the membership fee may vary between members, provided that the decision is adopted unanimously by the General Assembly.

The Bureau comprises the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary.

Since 1 January 2001 the Bureau is composed of:

Honorary Chairman : Eduardo Bautista, Chairman, SGAE (SP)

The Board is composed of Ordinary Members only.
Board meetings are held 4 or 5 times a year.

A General Assembly, with all Members invited, is held once or twice a year.

The EMO Secretariat is based in Brussels and led by the Secretary General, Mr Jean-François Michel.
